| Tony Jardine started his running
career in 1993 at the "ripe old age" of 43. He completed
his first (and last) Comrades in 1996, the same year he became Chairman
of
McArthur. He also served as Secretary in 1994 and Vice-Chairman in
1995. Tony earned his permanent numbers in the Johnny Kambouris
Challenge in 1996 with one silver and two bronze medals, the McArthur
Club 1000 competition in 1996, the Canoe
Iron Man in 1997, and in 2000 in the Venterskroon
Mountain Race. His 2024,9km in race kilometers during 1994 is
still the record for the McArthur Club 1000
competition. Tony is also Race Director for the Venterskroon
Mountain Race.
A serious cycling accident in 1999, followed by a car accident
in 2000 placed a temporary halt to his training, but Tony is adamant to
make a come-back in 2001. He is Strategy Implementation Manager at
AECI and is married to Charmaine. They
have two sons, Shaun and Nathan.
